Smoke-damaged Lungs Can Heal

If you’ve tried to quit smoking before but couldn’t find the motivation scientists have just found the ultimate reason. Research in the journal Nature shows that lungs have a “magical” ability to repair some of the damage caused by smoking if you stop smoking completely.

It was originally believed that the damage caused by smoking was permanent, but the new study shows that the few cells that escape damage caused by smoking can repair the lungs. The basics of the findings are as follows: the airways of smokers are mutated by tobacco, with cells containing up to 10,000 genetic alterations that can lead to lung cancer and other respiratory conditions; evidence shows that in those who quit smoking, up to 40% of their cells looked just like people who had never smoked, even when a patient had smoked a pack a day for 40 years!

You probably know the reasons why you should quit smoking and perhaps you’ve even tried to quit before; at Everyone Health we offer services to help you quit.
